Miami is a city in southeastern Florida in Miami-Dade County on the Miami River, between the Florida Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. In 2010, Miami had nearly 400,000 inhabitants. In 2015, the number of inhabitants was estimated at 441,003. The agglomeration has over 5.5 million inhabitants. The city itself isn't the largest in the state of Florida (that's Jacksonville), but along with the conurbation, it does. Nor is Miami the capital of Florida; that is Tallahassee. The city is named after the Mayaimi, a tribe that lived around the northeastern Okeechobee Lake.
